I've never had a mantra before. Some people say "breathe," I've heard. Of course there's "om." But while the idea made sense to me, I've never adopted one myself.
When I'm skating at practice, my feet hurt, my quad and butt muscles burn, my back feels tweaked out of place by leaning the same direction while moving for 20 minutes... Sometimes it crosses my mind, "Why am I doing this again?" But I refuse to stop, refuse to quit.
Now I say to myself over and over, "Pivot."
A year ago, I never thought I'd skate well enough to play. Now I'm thinking I'll do all right. Even as I started to build some confidence, I figured "Oh, I've always been kind of a bigger girl, I'll be a blocker." But really, I wanted to be a pivot.
Still today, I really want to be a pivot. So maybe if I just keep skating, do every drill as well as I can and never quit, maybe I can be a pivot.
