Best Bar Ever: The Brick in KC

Mr. CookingOnSkates and I get along pretty well but rarely agree on much. One thing we do agree on: The Brick is the best bar ever.

His reasoning? "Great food, great prices, no obnoxious drunks and they had G4 on the TV." Plus, he was sold within minutes the first time we went in—they had Pepsi instead of Coke.

Great food? Yes, for everyone! He likes their $5 burger baskets on Wednesdays. I'm in love with the sweet potato friends. The veggie burger isn't fantastic, but the Italian Grilled Cheese (roasted garlic goat cheese with tomato and basil on thick, toasted wheat berry bread) and Hummus Wrap are heavenly.

Great prices? Heck, yes! The last time there, we ordered a Pepsi, burger and fries, Italian grilled cheese with sweet potato fries, and split a brownie a la mode. With a $5 tip, the total came to $25. Where else is that even possible?

No obnoxious drunks. It's true. This bar as Boulevard on tap (it is Kansas City, after all) and drink specials that sound delightful, but everyone is well-behaved. The crowd ranges from early 20s to senior citizens. If we lived closer, we'd spend all our money eating there all the time.

G4 on TV. Not really a draw for me. I'd be more impressed if they streamed Derby News Network. Because I don't watch TV in restaurants, really, I don't care that much. I will say that they caption their TVs and keep the sound down low enough that customers can hear each other talk, and that is a huge selling point.

Seriously, take a minute and check out this menu. It's a wonderland for vegetarians and carnivores alike. They even have veggie and regular chili!

Last week, I meant to photograph at least part of my sandwich and fries. However, they disappeared before I got to it. Oops. I guess I'll have to go back and try again.
