Why I Stopped Weighing Myself
This. Weighs. A. Lot.
It also skates pretty fast. And it can booty block.
This isn't quite what I've ever thought of as an ideal body, but I love what it can do!

Gameday Makeup: A Success
I did add a waterproof MAC lipliner and waterproof Makeup Forever eyeliner, but basically did what I planned on (see previous post). Not only did I not think about my makeup all night, it stayed on so well through the game and dinner afterward that I practically peeled it off in the shower later.
Now my only question is whether to change it up from game to game or make this kind of a "signature" look!

Game 1: Last Set of Photos
Thanks to Brandi Wilson of Firebranded Photography for these photos!
This should be the very last set of photos. Part of me is still really excited to brag about the game, but this is also the easiest way for me to share pictures with some of my family members. In the meantime, enjoy!

Skating Side Effect: Blister of Doom
Once upon a time, I skated too much.
Last weekend, I was all excited about having Monday off and thought I could skate extra. Between Sunday and Monday, I attended a three-hour team practice, two-hour practice with a league in Jefferson City, and scrimmaged for an hour.
This is what I have to show for it:
Be glad I only took photos with a bandage on. Mega Manic told me that my foot looked like it had a bite taken out of it. She's probably right, and it felt about like that for 36 hours, too.
The good thing is that I learned that I can jam (if not very well) even with what looks like a hole in my foot. I also learned that these blister Band-Aids are not big enough to be useful on a real blister.
After about four months of skating on my Riedell 265 skates, I'm about ready to admit that I hate the way they fit my feet. I feel like I have great control of my wheels, but at the expense of many painful places on my toes and arches.
I welcome suggestions for skates to consider!

Pants Off Dance Off
This is a little delayed, but my team pulled off a great fundraiser a few weeks ago at the Czar Bar in Kansas City. Thanks to Shaun Ferguson for these photos. And thanks to everyone who attended the Pants Off Dance Off—you helped pay for our fantastic new jammer and pivot panties!

Cinnamon Chip Wheat Scones with Vanilla Glaze
I'm not a big fan of icing or glazes, but this glaze is fantastic and sweetens up the slightly dry wheat scones. Every scone I make is a modification of this original recipe, so feel free to change it up with what you have in your cabinet!
Cinnamon Chip Wheat Scones
modified from AllRecipes.com
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
2 cups wheat flour
1 cup white sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp salt
1 cup butter
1 egg
1 cup cinnamon chips
1 tsp cinnamon
1. In a small bowl, blend the sour cream and baking soda, and set aside.
2. Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease a large rimmed baking sheet.
3. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, cinnamon and salt.
4. Cut in the butter.
5. Stir the sour cream mixture and egg into the flour mixture until just moistened. Mix in the cinnamon chips.
6. Press dough into rimmed baking sheet.
7. Bake 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until starting to brown.
8. Cool. Cut into triangles. Glaze if desired.
Vanilla Glaze
scaled down from AllRecipes.com
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 1/4 tsp milk
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp butter
1. Melt butter. Mix in all other ingredients.

"Mel Breakdown's debut season is off to a fantastic start"
I know I said I'd stop posting about my first derby game, but this made me too happy not to share. Besides, Gatorade and Clif granola bars wouldn't make for a very interesting food blog right now anyway.
